Sanremo: 17-20 October, a long weekend of music and motorsport

The third weekend in October will see music lovers converge on the City of Flowers for the ‘Premio Tenco’ and motor racing enthusiasts for the 71st Rallye Sanremo and the 39th Rally Sanremo Historic, both valid appointments for the top Italian and European championships of the speciality. In addition to Sanremo, the protagonists will hit the roads of the hinterland, where the special stages will take place, including the long Ghimbegna-Soldano that will already be used, divided into three parts, by the previous Rally delle Palme on Sunday 22 September.

SANREMO (IM), 11 September– It will be a weekend in which the notes of songs and rally cars will light up the passion of music lovers and rally fans who will converge in Sanremo. The City of Flowers, in fact, in the days from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th October will host two events of international relevance that will put it at the centre of attention of music and rally lovers. Thursday 17 October will see the start of the ‘ Review of Songwriters’ Songs – Tenco Prize’, which will continue until Saturday 19 October, with the Ariston Theatre as the stage.

On the same days the 71st Rallye Sanremo will also be on stage, a race valid as the last act of the Italian Overall Rally Championship and for the European Rally Trophy, as well as for some national series. The ‘modern’ rally will have its scrutineering venue from Thursday 17 October in Piazza Colombo, while on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 October the seafront areas will host the Service Park and in Corso Imperatrice the start and finish platform will be positioned. The protagonists of the 39th Sanremo Rally Historic, which will have, among other titles, validity for the Italian Historic Car Rally Championship and the FIA European Historic Rally Championship, will meet in the same areas. The ‘historic’ race will get underway in the evening of Thursday 17 October with the sporting checks and technical scrutineering that will continue also the following day, to then light up the competitive moment on Saturday 19 October and close the long rally weekend on Sunday 20 October on the platform located in Corso Imperatrice under the Casino.

It will be a weekend that will see Sanremo in the sights of many music and motoring enthusiasts. The heart of the city will be the stage for the two events”, says Sergio Maiga, president of ACI Ponente Ligure, the body organising the two rallies, as well as the Rally delle Palme scheduled for 21 and 22 September. “Our focal points in town will be Piazza Colombo, where the scrutineering and regrouping of the two races will take place. The seafront areas, such as Lungomare Italo Calvino, Lungomare Adolfo Rava, and Piazzale Carlo Dapporto, will host the mechanics‘ vans that will take care of the rally cars between one special stage and the next, while Corso Imperatrice, under the Casino will be the starting and finishing line for the races”.

The roads of the hinterland from Friday to Sunday will be the venues for the special stages, including the 26.72-kilometre long Ghimbegna-Soldano,, which combines in a single timed section the three special stages of the previous Rally delle Palme that will be staged on Sunday 22 September, the starting day of the long motoring month in Western Liguria.
